Volvo, a name traditionally associated with heavy, safe, albeit box-shaped family wagons, is now offering up the sleek and incredibly fuel efficient V70 plug-in hybrid. Not only is Volvo claiming this vehicle's emissions are as low as 50g of CO2 per kilometer, but they also state that you will get 149 miles per gallon using their combined cycle system! That is quite a claim, one that could make it the world's most fuel efficient car!
Designed to work as a hyrbid with diesel power as a back-up, you can also choose to use electric power only which will allow you to cover 30miles of ground before needing to plug yourself in. Taking 4 hours to recharge fully from a high-voltage outlet makes Volvo's V70 option one of the most viable of today's hybrid and electric offerings.
With figures stating that most European drivers are covering less than 32miles a day this model could allow commuters to get where they need to go without any CO2 emissions at all! However we're yet to see if their claims are as practical as they say.
Either way, it is an exciting development in bringing practical green energy cars to our roads.
