The Return Of VW Phaeton?

German automaker Volkswagen is considering relaunching their luxury model the "Phaeton" in the US.

Selling only 1,939 units in its peak year caused the company to take it off the market, but CEO of VW America Stefan Jacoby now feels that their decision was a mistake and is seeking to find the appropriate time and manner to reintroduce it.

The current "cash-for-clunkers"program in the US has seen a high demand for diesel models among the Volkswagen offerings and Jacoby believes that the Phaeton could be the high-tech and energy efficient model that people are seeking.

Having literally run out of diesel powered models to sell during the busy "cash-for-clunkers" period, VW feel that the high interest in diesel technology may warrant a comeback for the Phaeton.
